Remove valet job #2789
Remove valet job #2789

Another Nyano Legacy stuff to go down the trash, oh well... |
Strongly dislike this - having an assistant role to run around doing menial tasks while you take care of business is peak manager. It is thematically fitting, and the valet having "no utility" if anything only shows the limitation of the SR's imagination or ability to delegate. |
The Station guard will take care of that job they have plenty of free time by themselves, have multiple station guards even, the valet's usefulness ended way too long ago and the role by itself has no justification when literal anyone can do it. Most people that play it consider extremely boring and that is even if someone plays them. |
If the role of the guard is to assist, then it is the guard that is not fulfilling their role. |
I dont get it, the guard already does assist the SR, they assist the people on the station, they arrest any low life criminals that end there, they help moving stuff of others people ships, they already do all of that, thats why the valet simply has no use. Reinforcing the role of the station guard to help and assist people around the station as more of a mentorship role will be handled on a different PR. |
If something happens that requires the presence of a guard they are expected to drop what they are doing and respond to it. That strikes me as incompatible with the role of mentor or assistant to the SR. The purpose and place of roles such as the valet, security and, I'd argue, the SR itself have been in a state of limbo as Frontier shuffled around the immortal station on which no crime could be committed and on which no players were allowed to remain. As we move away from that and back into a place where people are moving and interacting in similar spaces again I absolutely see a use for these roles. I believe that we've been extremely heavy handed in cutting content. I believe that it would be preferable to bring this back to a place of relevance. |
At the very least, IMO the role could use a rename, since as Leander-0 is pointing out, the Valet doesn't seem to do any actual valet-ing most of the time. Something like "Station Assistant" would fit what whatston3 is talking about. |
I disagree with this idea so much I am having trouble formulating a proper response. I think the biggest issue with this is that it doesn't adress the actual problem that has been created over the last few months: Frontier Outpost has been deserted, everyone who wanted to go there has been bullied away by policies forcing them to go elsewhere, even when there is nowhere to go. Valet didn't die the moment cargo got deleted. That was only the first step. Valet died the moment it was decided that Frontier should only be a spawn place and that nobody except the (very lonely) frontier staff are allowed to stay there for longer than 5 seconds because they will get bwoinked if they try to do otherwise. |
I think I'm also in favour of changing the valet to be a more SR-assistant focused role (perhaps giving it better tools to achieve that) than it's out right removal. |
Please don't remove the Valet, asking you this in favor of expanding the job. I sometimes play Valet if i have little time just to help out new adventurers. it's fun! |
Well, i guess it could be made into a community poll to see what the rest think about the role and if it should be removed. |
Echoing feedback on Discord, I think it would be better re-branded as "Station Guide" and made more into a mentor role. I agree a bit with Dusty that the guard role can conflict with being a guide. The guard is expected to drop everything to deal with any trouble on Frontier (although rare), and may be expected to guard SR if they ever need to leave station. I think if we have the role named as guide it will also help new players recognize them as someone to ask for help, whereas they might not realize that the station security or "civil guard" is for that. |
Closing this after vote. |
Got a few ideas for how to improve valet play, mostly about setting expectations both for the valet and the SR. Soon™. |
About the PR
Title, remove the valet job forever never to be seen, their body dumped to the cold vastness of space.
This job gave its utility while it could, it died the day cargo was removed from frontier and has become a sit down and RP to teach people simulator, something that the station guard cannot do while doing it way better so this role has become nothing else but bloat and can be perfectly removed to give more stuff to the station guards to go.
This is is a draft while i just take down most of their code little by little.
