Rename station/security guard into civil guard #2790
base: master
Are you sure you want to change the base?

See my comments in the valet thread about maybe considering bumping the secguard default slots to two so they have more time to patrol AND educate AND guard the SR AND deal with shitters. |
Added another Civil Guard slot to the frontier outpost prototype on the latest commit. |

Honestly just remove the job and convert it into a NFSD Patrol job |
NFSD will never willingly give a fuck about frontier, they are too busy raiding uiv's and annoying mercenaries. If the SR or STC needs an officer nearby, they will not be responded to. That is currently simply the reality. |
Wouldn't the NFSD be well served to have duties that keeps them closer to "the public" doing things that aren't being the "fun police" then? I agree with dvir
|
I think that if I needed someone to be on the Dispatch POI to help resolve an issue that a security officer would be much more likely to be involved and hang out for a spell than a NFSD patrol officer. NFSD patrol officer should be a thing. But the roles do not overlap as much as the labels seem to suggest in my view. |
Yes. However, they also have their fun police business to attend to. While, in an ideal world, NFSD would help with these kind of things, they will in reality either not be in range, not exist or just ignore it. Throwing the guard under the NFSD blanket also means that the barrier to entry is significantly higher, which means that you will see even less security presence. I want to express how much of a horrible idea I think this is, but I guess since dvir set their mind to it the guard will be deleted no matter how good my arguments will be. |
In my mind you'd assign a deputy to the PoI you wanted a "sec" presence at, if not just having a "civil guard" slot under the NFSD, if this was to be the case. Not "oh hey make the team on the other side of the map come back" or whatever. Lone deps would also gain something to do that's less daunting than "deal with all crime across the entire sector without guidance from the three levels of experience above you" |
Repeating from the valet removal PR, I think alternatively, valet would be better re-branded as "Station Guide" and made more into a mentor role instead of the guard. I think that the guard role can conflict with being a guide at times. The guard is expected to drop everything to deal with any trouble on Frontier (although rare), and may be expected to guard SR if they ever need to leave station. I think if we have a role named as guide it will also help new players recognize them as someone to ask for help, whereas they might not realize that the station security or "civil guard" is for that. |

About the PR
Naming was inconsistent across the codebase, fixed that into renaming everything into Civil Guard, more changes will be done on the wiki to reflect their use as a mentor/security/SR assistant role
Why / Balance
On current changes to the valet with #2789 the now Civil Guard would take more of its role to help new players around the station, help and assist the SR and continue what little policing that could be done on the frontier outpost or any of the other POIs.
How to test
Turn on game, look at all the mentions of station guard, now civil guard.
