Currently the message strings in the source aren't the proper English message strings. At the moment the source messages and the English messages are identical, but we have the machinery in place for them to be different. Consequently a translator for a different language cannot trust that the msgid is always representative, but must always refer to the English PO file for the proper message to base the translation on.
By removing the English PO file we bless the source messages to be the proper English strings, and this makes life easier for translators. This also mimics how we work with translations in Engine.
