Using a supported version?

  • I have searched searched open and closed issues for duplicates.
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Overall summary

See title. Group chats stay pinned, but direct messages will be pinned for a few seconds, then unpin themselves

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to direct message
  2. Three dot menu->Pin chat
  3. wait a few seconds
  4. chat unpins

Expected result

The correct behavior would be the chat staying pinned until I unpin it myself

Actual result

The chat unpins itself after a few seconds

Do you see those 1:1 conversations on your phone?

Please provide debug logs from both your Desktop instance and your phone - the two are interacting to give you the behavior you see.

Yes, I see the conversations on my phone. The conversation I'm trying to pin on desktop is pinned on my phone

I pinned the chat while signal desktop was offline, and it seems to stay pinned now

@jm355 If you see this again, please provide debug logs from your Desktop and any other linked devices you have online, like your phone. That will help us understand the interactions between them.

Also experiencing this issue lately, both with the official Signal deb on Pop!_OS 22.04 and with the unofficial flatpak on Fedora 39.

The only other device online is my Pixel phone running GrapheneOS with Molly as the Signal client. It has been unaffected so far.

Looking at the logs it appears that the Desktop client is successfully sending a cross device sync adding the pinned conversation. But the Android client is receiving that change and quickly reverting it, which Desktop then picks up.

Both of these logs are with the Molly Android client, and we're not able to reproduce this with the official Android client. If you are able to reproduce it with the official app, please send us logs and we can take another look.

I tried unlinking and deleting all data on my linked device, then re-linking. That didn't fix it. One interesting thing that I noticed both before and after trying that, the contact in question hasn't set a profile pic and I haven't either, so it's just the colorful initials default. On my phone it's a light pink, on my linked device it's gray. Maybe the two devices aren't recognizing that it's the same person somehow?

On the official app, do contacts have the same color across linked devices?
