Please make sure that the Touch keyboard and handwriting panel service is running. And if not please start it and try it again.

Hi Aaron-Junker,
Why would these need to be running when on a desktop computer?
The tool used to work fine in older versions (before the new interface) without these services.
Thank you

Note that I've tried starting the service and relaunching PT with no luck.

Hi there!

We need a bit more information to really debug this issue. Can you add a "Report Bug" zip file here? You right click on our system tray icon and just go to report bug. Then drag the zipfile from your desktop onto the GitHub comment box in this issue. Thanks!

Hi Aaron-Junker,
Why would these need to be running when on a desktop computer?

It does more then the name suggests. This is why the name got changed in a recent dev build of Windows 11

@crutkas @stefansjfw do we have a doc / wiki page explaining how to turn on the handwriting/touch service and why it matters for WinUI? I can't seem to find the original topic with instructions.

After reading through the comment mentioned by @crutkas and indeed rebooting the machine, it works when the service is enabled. In my previous test, I started the service but did not restart the machine.

UPDATE: issue solved activating "TabletInputService" (that's the name of "Touch keyboard and..." in my Win10 system)
After restarting the problem was over. Thanks everybody

I’m wondering, why did everyone turn it off?

I’m wondering, why did everyone turn it off?

In my case, there are a multitude of services which run on Windows by default that are not needed. So to limit the amount of things running which I have no use for, I turned it off.
Little did I know that something named after and likely originally used only for tablet mode, would become a dependency for WinUI as a whole as seems to suggest the comment from @Aaron-Junker.

I must admit, not a big fan of the new UI to be honest.
