Microsoft PowerToys version

0.49.1

Running as admin

  • Yes

Area(s) with issue?

General, Image Resizer

Steps to reproduce

-Open any screen that has an editable field.
-Try to write something

✔️ Expected Behavior

No response

❌ Actual Behavior

Since the interface has changed I've noticed that I can no longer type in the text fields.
Doing CTRL-C and CTRL-V also works for pasting text written in notepad.
Is there any logs that would be helpful to attach?

Other Software

No response

What module is affected exactly? Image Resizer or Power Rename or others? I've seen a number of similar issues, but mostly for Power Rename - see #14514 for example - so that is a known issue. If you would like to, you could right-click the tray icon and click "Report a bug" and it will create a zip file on your desktop, which you can upload into this issue.

Also i noticed that PowerToys Run down work anymore and every close and rerun of the app it is disabled. Some version ago (don't remember the number) it worked.
And i confirm i have all the same issues described in #14514

Okay, I see. Seems like a UI (XAML/UWP/something) problem. Well, this is going to be a guess, but in a different issue (#14076) the following helped.

Can you try installing Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable and check whether PowerRename works after that?
Visual Studio 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2022 - x64
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-160

Maybe @stefansjfw has a better idea?

Update: After i re-enabled (again disabled by itself) and i pressed MAIUSC on the windows bar Enlarge icon, PowerToys crashed. After rerun PowerToys Run worked again, and the type work (only there, have still the others problems).

@niels9001 / @stefansjfw this chances are will have same fix from #14514. From 47 to 49, did we maybe do an update to WinUI?

WinUI version for PowerRename is the same from the beginning. For settings it was updated in September last time.

I also have the same issue as @Werve, started with the v0.49.1 update, still present on v0.51.1. Running as Admin, installed latest redist. as suggested above.

Keyboard input does not register in any text fields – in both the settings window for any module, such as

"Run" module: custom shortcuts (settings window only; the actual activated command bar works)
"Image Resizer": custom presets / naming patterns (settings window)
"Rename": the actual GUI launched from windows explorer will not accept any text input.

Forgive me if this isn't the correct place to post, I'm new to navigating GitHub.

@Jessamynn So, you're saying that version v0.49 works good for you?

@Jessamynn So, you're saying that version v0.49 works good for you?

Apologies, the issue began with 0.49 – the update that introduced the completely new "Power Rename" interface; I just looked at the changelog, so the last working version for me, that allowed text input into text fields, was 0.47.1.

I'm pretty sure I did not install the 0.48.1 experimental release, as I tend to avoid software pre-releases if at all possible, if that matters.

I confirm that #14514 (comment) (Enable Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service) resolved.
