How to find your own slack ID

  1. Go to the HfLA slack on your computer and click on your profile picture. image

Find someone else's Slack handle

  • Method 1: find their profile from a message in a Slack channel Find a message from that person, and
  • Method 2: Use the search at the top of the Slack to search their name

Once you find their handle

click on their name. This will trigger a popup window with the user's picture, name, and a link to "View full profile". Click on "View full profile". That pane gives you the options message, call, and more. Click on "more" and you should be shown "Copy member ID" followed by the actual id. This is the id you need to use in the slack url e.g. https://hackforla.slack.com/team/<MEMBER_ID>
