Hugo's dominant template language is Go templates. But, at some point and without too much thought about the cost of maintaining it, we added support for Amber and Ace.
There seems to be low activity on both of those projects and with that combined with the low number of support questions we get about it, the cost of maintaining them with the same feature set as Go templates is too high, especially considering the limited "Hugo developer" workforce.
The above was brought to date when implementing #6545 --- which would not be possible to implement while also keeping Ace and Amber, without significant added cost.
So, esp. considering #6545 we will deprecate Ace and Amber support in Hugo 0.61 and remove it in 0.62 when we release #6545.
