Discussion

• update on shallow clones of ESP-IDF for submodules - saves around 400 MB
• mirror of GitHub assets - Rust toolchain mirror on dl.espressif.com rust-build#27
• update of release process so that tag is aligned with release - install-rust-toolchain.sh bundled with tag 1.57.0.2 installs version 1.57.0.0 rust-build#26
• Windows - long paths in ESP-IDF may hit another problem when updating submodules - Allow installation on longer paths than 90 characters espressif/idf-installer#103

mbedtls

• PR for generic context (required for looser trait bounds, which is needed for rust-native-tls) in review.
• Work on using the mbedtls component of esp-idf instead of mbedtls-sys.
  • first attempt, use the mbedtls-sys generated config.h.
  • requires passing custom bindgen args to replicate the format (i.e stripping mbedtls_ from variable names).
  • Issues around c_types it seems the c_types in esp-idf-sys & mbedtls don't seem to match up leading to a number of compilation issues (yet to figure this out).

xtensa-lx-rt

• Closed Unify & feature gate Xtensa asm xtensa-lx-rt#27, not going to work out there is simply not enough info to calculate some things on a per chip process.
• New approach:
  • Parsing header files from xtensa overlays (minimal progress here just yet).

• Added section on debugging
  • probe-rs info and limitations recorded.
  • Overview of OpenOCD with some rough examples for working with it.

• Schematics done. Download here
• PCB outline defined.
• Parts placement done.
• Wings compatibility for most wings - OK (some have conflicts with USB D+/D- and some require some wire-up soldering).

• Added implementations for a number of previously missing GPIO pins
• Implement embedded-hal traits for downgraded GPIOs (GpioPin)
