This reverts one of the changes in #610, included in the latest prerelease.
Removing the
try/exceptcould become a breaking change, since some plugin projects are using subscripted type hints (and we do not support it yet - #199). Therefore, in order to not introduce a breaking change, we keep thetry/exceptuntil #199 is done.
