Ah, you told me UTF-8 was the default sun.jni.encoding for OpenJ9, but I misunderstood.

I see the following with Hotspot after export LC_ALL=C, OpenJ9 should be the same.

    file.encoding = UTF-8
    native.encoding = US-ASCII
    stderr.encoding = US-ASCII
    stdout.encoding = US-ASCII
    sun.io.unicode.encoding = UnicodeBig
    sun.jnu.encoding = UTF-8

Actually, this is what I get with OpenJ9, which is a different problem.

    file.encoding = UTF-8
