start spec-ing out the Wilkinson abstractions (JMS)
initial forays into rendering? (PJM)
- good libraries to leverage (Piccolo2D?, prefuse?, processing?)

implement ddply (and get the types worked out) (in progress)
abstract the current model further (separate interfaces and implementation more) (in progress)

bring in existing math/stats packages like commons.lang.math
