The BVG endpoint seems down from time to time.

Unfortunately, as VBB still blocks our API servers, there's no real alternative for Berlin & Brandenburg, except hosting your own instance on unblocked IP addresses.

In 96dd5c2, I have added more instructions on how to handle the 2.vbb.transport.rest endpoint being down.
