macOS Multi‐desktop preference

What is it?

macOS clients have a "Multi-desktop" preference to control how the app window behaves when there are multiple virtual desktops ("Spaces").

Auto

If the app is Docked, it will be shown on all desktops simultaneously. If the app is not Docked, the window will be moved to the current Space if activated.

Duplicate

The app will be shown on all Spaces simultaneously.

Move spaces

When the app window is activated, the OS will move to the Space containing the app window.

Move window

When the app window is activated, the app window will be moved to the current Space.

Why Should I Care?

"Auto" should be suitable for most users, but some may prefer a specific window behavior.
