  • misc README/CONTRIBUTING updates
  • exclude /examples/ from *.whl distribution
  • add code linting
    • add pre-commit config
    • automated lint
      • fix git-blame attribution
    • manual fixes

Also (in GH settings):

  • enable main branch protection
  • clean unused GHA secrets
