Free macOS plugin to play .mkv movies in Quicklook Preview, very fast.
Works on all macOSX versions on both Intel and Silicon architectures.
Instant playback and smooth scrolling:

tested up to 3840 × 2160 with a 10-bit bit depth and a bitrate of 365.20 Mbit/s. - Optional, native, picture-in-picture mode supported.
Launch the app once. This registers the extension as the extension itself stays within the app bundle.
Requires nothing that is not included already, is sandboxed and hardened, and has no extra entitlements.
Delete the app.
Replace the older app with the newer app. MacOS looks for the extension in the app: if app is moved, a relaunch might be needed.

The extension uses code from FFmpeg licensed under LGPLv2.1.
Its libraries are embedded, nothing to download or install, i.e. the Mkv Quicklook extension works immediately.
