Roadmap (Lite)

This brief Roadmap is meant to give Mukurtu users and potential developers an idea of the sorts of things the Mukurtu team is either currently working on, expect to work on in the future, or just looking at possibilities.

(P) = planned (PS) = pretty sure we are gonna do it (JS) = just spitballin'

Any feedback is welcome at support at mukurtu.org or add an issue with a label of enhancement or question in this repository.

Mukurtu Mobile

• Release of a Mukurtu CMS 2.1 compatible Android app. (P)
• Creation of more content types in addition to digital heritage items (eg: dictionary words). (P)
• Selective offline storage and access. (P)
• Improved site browsing experience. (P)

Language Localization

• Translate field names with minimal customization (P)
• Support for multi-lingual sites (P) --Eg: site-wide toggle, duplicate fields

Accessibility

• Better align with WCAG standards (P)

SCALD and Media

• New Sketchfab SCALD Provider for 3D models (P)

New Content Types

• Place Records (P) --Pulling together all the references of a specific location across the site to enrich the narrative about that place

Annotation and Transcription

• Enhanced support for transcription in general. Adding the ability to add time-coded transcriptions and annotations directly into Mukurtu (JS)
• Possible OHMS viewer integration (PS)
• Possible IIIF integration (PS)
• Possible Elan viewer integration (PS/JS)

Digital Heritage

• Streamlined “submission form” for DH and other content creation (PS)

Dictionary

• Better browse facet for Non-ASCII characters (P)

Mapping Improvements

• Polygon/line/multi-point mapping (P)
• Fuzzy mapping (P)
• Point Clustering (P)
• Replacing Google Maps basemap/API (P)

Exhibits (PS)

• Ability to create visually appealing exhibits for a small portion of DH content.
• Build out exhibits based on Collections
• DH items across site
• Allow curators to add choose from limited themes/ display

Move off Drupal 7 (P)

• Migrate to Drupal 8/9

Import/Export

• Adding support Import and Export of:
• Dublin Core XML (PS)
• METS with DC XML for item metadata (PS)
• METS with MODS XML for item metadata (PS)

Administrative and Reporting Functionality

• Digital Heritage Activity Reporting on added/edited/deleted Digital Heritage Items within the community. (PS)

Integrations/Code Contributions

• Exposing a Mukurtu API (for lack of a better term) for easier contribution to Mukurtu (P)
• Explore options for support of “modular” development so interested parties can more reliably develop needed features while preserving Mukurtu Core features.
