Frankly, I am unfamiliar with what you are doing here but it seems like a repository. To keep things updated, is it primarily just updating the URL and the sha256?

Yes, repository inside git. Manages your binary releases and source in a consistent manner with a one liner install/upgrade. Cargo-binstall is nice as a rust specific alternative. Similar thing. It doesn't have to track the sha, but generally that's how it's almost always done. Homebrew has pretty loose tolerances for packaging by design. https://docs.brew.sh/How-to-Create-and-Maintain-a-Tap
