It looks like the tightening was done in 961aa6c but I couldn't find any context as to why...

Unfortunately, newer IntervalSets versions are slower and result in more allocations – see JuliaMath/IntervalSets.jl#168. Noticed when I ran FlexiJoins tests – they fail on Julia 1.10 with newer IntervalSets because of much more allocations.
Hopefully this performance regression doesn't happen with Julia 1.11, and we can relax the compat whenever 1.10 becomes irrelevant here. But didn't check 1.11 myself.

indeed, unfortunately the new IntervalSets versions lead to performance issues on both 1.10 and 1.11
