[Bug]: Read The Docs build failing because of contributors graph not being rendered correctly with pdflatex

What happened?

The Read The Docs build is failing because the PDF generation portion fails.

This started happening after merging #650.

What did you expect to happen? Are there are possible answers you came across?

I think we have to replace all .png images with .svg in the notebooks because the latex pdf generator package doesn't seem to be able to export the documentation as PDF.

Related issue: readthedocs/readthedocs.org#905

The contributors graph portion of the index.rst was not being built properly with pdflatex, causing the pdf export to fail.
