I use version 2.5.3 on Debian with the KDE desktop. I want my computer to shut down when I am not using it. When novelWriter is open, the shutdown is held indefinitely by the close dialog.
I understand the need to warn users when data can be lost, but in this case all data is saved automatically. Therefore, this dialog is not as useful as in normal word processing apps, and it causes problems.
Open a novel on KDE Plasma (not tested on other systems)
configure your computer to shut down automatically after a few minutes of inactivity.
Wait for the shutdown. It will be stopped by the exit dialog. The dialog will remain open and prevent shutdown.
Either a configurable countdown for shutdown, or an option to disable this dialog.
