Hi 👋 I'm Jon Latané, a software engineer and musician. I grew up in Washington, North Carolina - an estuary town in North Carolina's "inner banks" - playing music and getting into all sorts of math and science-related shenanigans. I took piano at nearby ECU while in middle and high school, and then paid for my Computer Science and Math double major by playing piano (accompanying) in UNC Chapel Hill's music department (and elsewhere in the Triangle area).

I currently work at Corista building pretty amazing - and continually improving - medical software. But I like to keep busy in my non-work time... 🏃🏼🚴🏻‍♂️🏋🏼‍♂️🧘🏼‍♂️🤸🏼🎹👨🏼‍💻🧗🏻‍♂️

My two main software side projects are:

  • BeatScratch is in maintenance mode.
    • This has been through a few iterations, but currently exists mainly as an iOS-only app these days due to Google Play. The iOS app should feasibly work for years, and I'll probably update it when forced to. You can buy it on the App Store if you'd like to support me that way. But know I don't have much feature development planned for BeatScratch currently.
    • At this point, BeatScratch is on life support. I'd love to GPL it, support it full time, and integrate it with Jonline, but that time commitment means quitting or seriously defocusing on my "real" job, a serious amount of cash. See my top sponsorship tier.
  • Jonline (along with BullCity.Social and OakCity.Social) is under fairly-active side development.
    • If you've ever wanted hands-off hosting of your own social media site, at $25/mo sponsorship tier, I'll host a Jonline instance for you. That means you can have your own site, with whatever name/logo/colors you want, like Jonline, BullCity.Social, or OakCity.Social. (You will need to bring your own domain for this, and host it on CloudFlare.)

Your own Jonline instance

I will host a Jonline instance for you, like https://jonline.io, https://bullcity.social, or https://oakcity.social, where you are the administrator.

  • If you buy yourdomain.com, and host it on Cloudflare, I will configure a Jonline instance at yourdomain.com.getj.online and host it for you, configured to function as the backend for yourdomain.com.
    • You will have 1GB of Postgres and 5GB of MinIO media storage on the same cluster as my other instances. For more money, I can scale to meet bigger needs.
  • Store media responsibly. If I become aware of anything problematic or illegal I'll be obligated to report it.

At this tier, I'll be making enough to either quit or drastically reduce time at my normal job (we should talk about how long you plan to support me at this level). This is a long-term investment that will take time (BeatFlutter - the Flutter implementation of BeatScratch - needs to be updated to null-safe Dart, which means updates for quite a few obscure dependencies).

With multiple sponsors at this level, I will release BeatScratch under the GPL.
