FAQ and Troubleshooting
Do I need CFW?
Yes, CFW is required for any save editing or live editing.
Do I need to open the game for LiveHeX?
Yes.
Do I need a Switch for LiveHeX?
Yes, LiveHeX is not made for emulators.
Should I use the stable builds or the bleeding edge builds?
Stable builds are recommended for most users. Bleeding edge builds are only for experienced users who want to test the latest commits and are able to troubleshoot errors.
PKHeX doesn't open after installing the plugins.
PKHeX opens but the icon is not blue.
Make sure that you have unblocked both DLLs and your folder is in a location where you have access (not OneDrive or any system folder). The version of the plugins must be the same date as the PKHeX release version. Older versions of PKHeX can be downoaded from "See Changelog" on the PKHeX download page. Go back to basic installation of PKHeX-Plugins if you do not know how to install.
I have to open and close PKHeX multiple times to get the plugins to load.
Go into PKHeX > Options > Settings
and change Startup > PluginLoadMethod
to LoadFile
.
"Legalize Active Pokémon" is not working.
Auto-Legality Mod does not create legal sets for you; it takes the bare minimum information from a Showdown set and adds extra game data to make the Pokémon legal in game. This means that you must ensure that the Pokémon you are trying to legalize has appropriate basic information. Recommendation is to start with Import Showdown Set first by following the Getting Started with Auto-Legality Mod page.
I am getting an error saying "An item with the same key has already been added" when I connect.
I am getting bad reads and the top of the window says "Forced" for the game version.
This occurs when LiveHeX is unable to detect your game version. This usually happens if:
- You are not on the latest release. Reinstall the plugins.
- You are running the plugins from the wrong blank save (e.g. trying to connect to BDSP from a SWSH save).
- You have cheats/mods or something else causing RAM shift active. This is usually because of Edizon's cheat engine (even if no cheats are loaded), Tesla, Capturesight, or layeredFS / game mods. It is suggested that you remove these programs and reboot if you are still having problems, but you can temporarily disable all Atmosphère cheats by holding L while booting up the game.
- A quick fix for extra things running on your Switch that are interfering is to remove everything from the
atmosphere/contents
folder except for sys-botbase (and ldn_mitm for SWSH), and reboot to see if it works. Then add things back until it breaks.
I am seeing red boxes when I connect with LiveHex.
- On Switch, this means your RAM is displaced due to cheats, mods, or programs ilke CaptureSight and Tesla. See the issue above for the solution.
- On 3DS, this may simply be because NTR is sluggish. Change the box back and forth until the problem resolves.
I connect without any errors, and I see completely blank boxes.
This can be due to the same problem as what causes red boxes, but can additionally occur if your console and computer are on different bands of a dual-banded router. Put them both on the same band, and if one does not work, try the other band. If you see "Forced" version, follow the instructions for that problem instead.
I cannot use the automatic installation because it says my files are in OneDrive.
You cannot have "OneDrive" in the path where your files exist. The current path will appear at the top of the window when you attempt the automatic installation.
Move your files somewhere else, or you can look up how to disable OneDrive. Here is an example guide.
I am having an error like "Field not found" or "Method not found" every time I try to legalize or generate a Pokémon.
Your PKHeX and PKHeX-Plugins are mismatched. Please ensure that you are on the correct, matching stable builds. Refer to the Installing Older Releases section on the installation page.
I can't legalize a newly released Pokémon.
The Pokémon must first be legal in base PKHeX. Normally, Wonder Cards are bundled into stable releases.
- If it is a new event Pokémon, wait until a Wonder Card is released on Project Pokémon Event Gallery or the Github repository. A Wonder Card is NOT a
pk8
/pk9
/etc. file; putting Pokémon files into this directory will not work. The file extension should be something likewc8
/wb8
. - Create an
mgdb
folder in the same directory as PKHeX.exe and put new Wonder Cards inside. - For new Tera Raid Pokémon, you likely need to update your PKHeX to UNSTABLE development builds. You can also try Installing Bleeding Edge Releases if you are able to build the programs yourself.
- For new Pokémon GO Pokémon, you can build PGET and extract the pkl files to put in the same folder as PKHeX.exe. Remove these pkl files when a new stable PKHeX is released.
- Restart PKHeX afterwards.
When I click "Connect", the program freezes or I get an error about a connection attempt failing.
Please carefully review the Troubleshooting Connection Errors page.
When I try to Generate Living Dex with LiveHex, changing the box overwrites what I had.
You need to disable "Read on Changed Box" so changing the box does not erase the currently loaded mons. Every box must be written individually.
- If these still don't resolve your issue, come to the ALM Discord linked on the repository's main page.
- Ask any PKHeX-Plugins questions in #alm-livehex-help. You can unlock access to this channel by reading very carefully. Asking for help in this channel is a confirmation that you know what is on this page. Please state what you have already tried from the Wiki.
