Hey there all, I'm James, the Leadership Council member for the Launching Pad Team, and as part of #118, I'm starting the triage process of trying to find permanent homes for teams currently under the launching pad.
In this first pass, I'm making tracking issues for each of the teams, starting the discussion on whether y'all think there is a reasonable team you think would make sense to move under, and in general checking whether the members of these teams are still actively working on things related to these teams.
There is also a separate tracking issue for the top level community team here: #128
Could anyone help me enumerate the current activities and responsibilities of the Community Localization subteam, and whether this subteam is generally still active?
Thank you!

The team hasn't been doing anything for a while since the community team was shut down. There is work for the team to do: forming translation teams for rustc and building out that process would be great. I'm happy to provide guidance on what work needs to be done there, but I cannot do it myself at this time.
So we're not active, but such a team would be good to have if we can find someone to help run it.
Responsibilities:
Ensuring there is sufficient localization infrastructure
Managing localization teams for different languages: ensuring there is critical mass to form them, ensuring there are trusted individuals leading those teams, ensuring that they have everything they need to work
Providing feedback to different Rust projects as they internationalize their code so that it may support localization
Thank you @Manishearth - that helps a lot! I've noticed the start of a theme (and sort of expect it to continue as I work down the launching pad teams), of team members that are no longer able to be active, but the work is still needed and desirable for the project. I've taken note of this and started discussing with the Council how we can support this.
I'll come back when I have more to share, feel free to add anything else you think is relevant!
Another relevant thing is that rustc has support for i18n but the lack of anyone willing to coordinate this work: specifically, building up translation teams led by trusted individuals, has led to that work being unused and in danger of being ripped out. It would be really nice if some resources could be allocated to this work to get it started, the Chinese community in particular really wants translated rustc.
This is a tracking issue for finding a long-term home for the Community Localization team.
