It would be great to make a a new patch release!

In particular, the updates from #53 (e.g. switch from setup.py to pyproject.toml) are not released yet. As a consequence, build of the arch package fails on python 3.12:

@ppinard any chance to get out a maintenance release soon to work with the newer python versions?

@jlaehne if you're looking for a way to make scale bars on geographic plots, check out the package I just developed: matplotlib-map-utils.

If you need a scale bar for non-geographic plots, I am considering adding functionality to do so, your feedback would be appreciated.

@moss-xyz I am mainly interested in electron microscopy signals and and in this package as an optional dependency of RosettaSciIO
and fixed dependency of orix - however, I currently have other priorities than replacing matplotlib-scalebar in these packages.
