Distribution:

NAME="Pop!_OS"
VERSION="20.10"

$ uname -r
5.11.0-7614-generic

Issue Description:
I was listenning to the YouTube on my BT headset with the notebook lid closed.
Then music stopped, I went to check out what's happened and the screen was black, and system didn't respond to any keys.
So I hard rebooted it with holding the power button.

Other Notes:
Happened around 14:17, I guess:
journalctl.log

Also another unexpected reboot happened while lid was closed around 21:52

Is this happening on System76 hardware or third-party hardware? What are the make/model and specifications of the machine? Do similar issues occur with Ubuntu or other distributions?

System76 customers can reach out to support for technical assistance. For non-System76 hardware, you can seek community support on Reddit or Mattermost.

Do similar issues occur with Ubuntu or other distributions?

Don't know.

System76 support contacted and linked to this issue.

@arbitrary-dev:
This sounds like pop-os/linux#45 if you are willing, try the fix Kanru suggests near the bottom of the ticket.

I set intel_idle.max_cstate=3, but still my lemp10 went unresponsive after some time laying unattended with lid closed.

I'm curious, why does my CPU have so few C-states available, and why they all have _ACPI suffix?

$ grep . /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpuidle/state*/name
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpuidle/state0/name:POLL
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpuidle/state1/name:C1_ACPI
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpuidle/state2/name:C2_ACPI
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpuidle/state3/name:C3_ACPI

Still hangs with lid closed on new kernel 5.11.0-7614

Neither of the params suggested in #449 helped:

  • mem_sleep_default=shallow (have no deep state available)
  • rcutree.rcu_idle_gp_delay=1
  • snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0
