The adapter API is Cog's original design and is showing its age. The inconsistently specified (and implemented!) interface complicates multiple chat provider support, makes debugging Cog much more difficult, and introduces unnecessary complexity when we've attempted to extend the API in the past.

The redesigned and refactored API, hereafter referred to as "Adapter API 2.0", will feature:

  • Clear and concise API specification
  • Slack implementation
  • HipChat implementation
