Mongodb: Disabled on arm? #117

Is there a reason why the "mongodb" recipe is disabled on arm, despite it being a supported platform?

COMPATIBLE_HOST_arm = "null"

FYI I enabled arm for mongodb and there was one thing that needed to be fixed..

ssl_manager.cpp invalid conversion from size_t to uint64_t in mongoUnsignedAddOverflow64.

After this was fixed it compiled and runs just fine.

Never mind, closing, I guess it's unstable on 32-bit..

@TomMettam good progress, if you can test it a bit more and submit a patch when it works reliably we can enable it.

Hi, I've tested, mongodb (v4) works fine on arm 64 (armv8), since mongodb needs 64bits host system for wiredtiger, mongodb does not support 32 bits version since 2.8 and is limited to 2GB database. On raspberryPi, raspbian provide an old mongodb 2.8 package.
There is a mongodb embedded version (called mongodb Mobile https://github.com/mongodb/mongo/tree/master/src/mongo/embedded) wich work on 32bits systems, it's an "sqlite nosql" alternative, but need to be used as library (no socket).

I needed this for a specific application, running a UniFi controller on Raspberry Pi which requires MongoDB. It's possible with raspbian. Are there any recipes available for 2.8?

you can migrate to 64bits on raspberrypi (armv8) to use mongodb 4.0.6, old recipes for mongodb start at 3.4 (sumo branch). In raspbian, package is available with apt.

Unfortunately I can't use raspi-64, there are some issues with userland on 64 bit and the openmax components that i'm working with :(

Romaxx commented Feb 25, 2019

rpi is cheap, why not use 2 rpi ? one device in 32bits with userland, and one "server" in 64 bits with last version of mongodb. Or use Mongodb mobile version, in your case, what is the application using mongodb ?

Because we have strict power requirements. The application is UniFi's cloud key controller, it's not something I can modify, unfortunately.

you can still use very old 2.4.14 version on 32bits raspbian with apt-get install mongodb-server

Yes, I know, but this isn't raspbian :P My application is built around Yocto and doesn't run on raspbian. But never mind, this is off topic - I just wanted to know if there were any yocto recipes for the old version of mongo

Romaxx commented Feb 25, 2019

has I've said, 3.4 from sumo is the oldest recipes http://cgit.openembedded.org/meta-openembedded/tree/meta-oe/recipes-dbs/mongodb/mongodb_git.bb?h=sumo but even if you build 2.4 version with custom recipes, current mongodb drivers probably not support it.
Some people have made custom build (ex: 3.0.14 https://andyfelong.com/2017/08/mongodb-3-0-14-for-raspbian-stretch/) with yocto you can add theses compiled binaries to your distib. it's unsafe.

Changelog:
=========
  * Fixed: [CVE-2021-46141]
      Fix a bug affecting both uriNormalizeSyntax* and uriMakeOwner*
      functions where the text range in .hostText would not be duped using
      malloc but remain unchanged (and hence "not owned") for URIs with
      an IPv4 or IPv6 address hostname; depending on how an application
      uses uriparser, this could lead the application into a use-after-free
      situation.
      As the second half, fix uriFreeUriMembers* functions that would not
      free .hostText memory for URIs with an IPv4 or IPv6 address host;
      also, calling uriFreeUriMembers* multiple times on a URI of this
      very nature would result in trying to free pointers to stack
      (rather than heap) memory (GitHub openembedded#121, GitHub openembedded#124)
      Commit 987b046e41f407d17c622e580fc82a5e834b4329
      Commit b1a34743bc1472e055d886e29e9b53f670eb3282
  * Fixed: [CVE-2021-46142]
      Fix functions uriNormalizeSyntax* for out-of-memory situations
      (i.e. malloc returning NULL) for URIs containing empty segments
      (any of user info, host text, query, or fragment) where previously
      pointers to stack (rather than heap) memory were freed (GitHub openembedded#122,
      GitHub openembedded#124)
      Commit c0483990e6b5b454f7c8752b36760cfcb0d093f5
  * Fixed: CMake: Call "enable_language(CXX)" prior to tinkering with
      CMAKE_CXX_* variables (GitHub openembedded#110)
  * Fixed: CMake: Support absolute paths for both CMAKE_INSTALL_LIBDIR
      and CMAKE_INSTALL_INCLUDEDIR (GitHub openembedded#114)
  * Fixed: Windows: Address MSVC compiler warnings (GitHub openembedded#111, GitHub openembedded#113)
  * Fixed: Documentation: Space requirements for uriUriStringToUnixFilename
      did not take into account short form "file:/bin/bash" of RFC 8089 of 2017
      (with prefix "file:/" rather than "file:///") that uriparser supports
      since release 0.8.6 in 2018 (GitHub openembedded#118, GitHub openembedded#119)
  * Fixed: Compile error with MinGW GCC 9 related to a mismatched prototype
      for function inet_ntop (GitHub openembedded#117, GitHub openembedded#120)
  * Fixed: Compile warnings in test suite code (GitHub openembedded#120)
  * Improved: Respect variable ${CPP} in doc/preprocess.sh (GitHub openembedded#115)
  * Added: Test suite invocation for MinGW using Wine (GitHub openembedded#120)
  * Soname: 1:29:0 - see https://verbump.de/ for what these numbers do
