as a reaction to #988 the wiki should include the necessary instructions for a custom compilation path. The following instructions should be added:

(On Ubuntu 16.04 or greater)
3.1.3 Open /etc/ld.so.conf.d/x86_64-linux-gnu.conf with root privileges and append path-to installation-folder/build/lib to it. Run sudo ldconfig.
