I have checked if others have suggested this already

  • I have checked this issue tracker to see if others have reported similar issues.

Feature description

When the DAITA option is enabled, it would be useful for the app to connect to only one of the available DAITA servers. So the idea might be to show only the available DAITA servers, even if they are not present in your country. Also, each server upon connection should show a flag or something else indicating whether it can support further connections or not.

Alternative solutions

I use the Server page of the Mullvad Web site to find DAITA servers.

Type of feature

  • Better privacy/anonymity
  • Better at circumventing censorship
  • Easier to use
  • Other

Operating System

  • Android

  • macOS

Since most servers don't currently support DAITA it is, as you have noted, quite likely that there will be no servers in your current location that work after you enable the feature. The way we currently handle this is issue is that, when "Direct Only" is disabled, we automatically route your traffic through the closest DAITA enabled server to whatever location you have selected. Unless you enable "Direct Only", you can't actually select the DAITA server yourself. If you do enable it, the list will of available relays in your current location will be filtered on DAITA availability, and you must pick one yourself.

You suggestion of showing DAITA server outside you current location is interesting, though. I'll bring it up with the team and see what they think! We are planning an overhaul of the location picker sometime in the future, so if we like your idea it would likely be implemented in conjunction with that.
