I was introduced to split keyboard by Ergodox, due to my RSI. Once I was comfortable with Erogodox after 6 or so months, I realised my hand were still moving a lot, and there could be a way to downsize to a smaller keyboard. I moved to a Lily58. after using that for a while, again I felt it was not efficient and i could down size further. Additionally I had issue with thumbs on Lily58 feeling very cramped for me.
So I set out to find a good keyboard layout and thumb cluster. Someone over a small Indian KB telegram group, suggested me to take a at miryoku, and I was not sure if I could get used to a 36 key layout at first. But after trying Miryoku on Lily58 for a short period, it was clear that this is the end layout for me. I noticed a lot less fingure fatigue, but thumb were still a problem. So I continued my search for an ideal thumb cluster, and layout around miryoku (3X5_3) . That is when I found Pteron56 by Fsund. I did a trace on paper, and realised it was the thumb cluster I needed. So I forked the Pteron56 unibody PCB and made Pteron36, a 36 key Miryoku inspierd split out of it.
Pteron36 recieved a lot for feedback from the community, and it ended but being a 38 key pcb, with configurable thumb cluster. Additonaly a slightly modified layout called Pankh was also made available.
