On the Github page it says:

Single file audio playback and capture library written in C.

I think it's not meant for playing just a single audio file though?

It means the entire library is contained within a single source code file - miniaudio.h.

Perhaps, but it's not clear, since it's possible that someone could have developed a player that has just a single track instance.

Pure Data was built to have only a single instance.
