Im not able to set up the repo correctly in a way that flatten_single_child_sections get applied.

does the .nav.yaml need to be in the docs/ directory or can it sit in the top-level?
Also would it be possible to add some info logging about if the nav.yaml get correctly used?

The default filename is .nav.yml (without the a in the extension). You can change it in the plugin options if you want.

Yes, the file needs to be inside the docs directory.
