The operating system name and version used
ubuntu 18.04, minikube is v0.34.1
So, the thing is that AMD-v is enabled in the BIOS (as SVM and IOMMU) and ubuntu seems to recognize it (cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep --color 'vmx\|svm' outputs a lot of lines with svm).
As virtualbox is failing I tried to bring minikube up with kvm2 but it fails as well with error:

- 'journalctl -xeu kubelet'
Additionally, a control plane component may have crashed or exited when started by the container runtime.
To troubleshoot, list all containers using your preferred container runtimes CLI, e.g. docker.
Here is one example how you may list all Kubernetes containers running in docker:
- 'docker ps -a | grep kube | grep -v pause'
Once you have found the failing container, you can inspect its logs with:
- 'docker logs CONTAINERID'
