The build fails without alex -- http://hydra.cryp.to/build/13357/nixlog/4/raw --, but the Cabal file doesn't declare the depedency.

To be fair, it is mentioned in the installation documents, but I still have no idea why it's not in the cabal build file.

Well, mentioning the tools required at build time in the appropriate Cabal stanza certainly isn't going to hurt anybody ...
