Conflicts with Kanata home row mods

Summary

I've got some home row mods setup using kanata on windows.
Basically "f" is just f when tapped, and ctrl when held.

In helix, if I press something like space-f using this setup, it does nothing.
Disabling the kanata config fixes the issue, and space-f opens the file searcher as it should.

Neovim does not seem to have any similar issues (not trying to say it's better, just mentioning it in case it helps the investigation).

Update, seems that's true for other commands involving "something, plus one of the modified keys".
e.g. within the word "convolution", if the cursor is at the beginning, pressing "fu" will take me to the letter u, but pressing "fl" will act as if I only pressed "l", and it will move the cursor one character to the right, while pressing "fj" will move the cursor one line down.

Update 2: Just tried exactly the same config in my laptop running debian linux and this issue does not exist (tested in both gnome terminal and alacritty.

In windows I've tested it in both "windows terminal" and "command prompt", with both kanata_gui.exe and kanata_cmd_allowed.exe but the issue is always there.
Not sure whether it could be attributed to helix, kanata, or the windows terminals.
