Dependency:

Overview

We need to review our consent process for the entire Tech Work Experience (TWE) Internship program and update the wiki pages to reflect our processes so that future researchers can replicate our process of administering informed consent.

Action Items

  • #360
  • During your review identify ways in which the consent process is inconsistent across research types (e.g., mentors vs. interns)
  • Provide recommendations to the UXR Lead on how this information should be streamlined, updated, and presented on the Wiki Research Output Overview page
  • Meet with UXR Lead on your findings and confirm next steps
  • Update relevant WIKI pages (See resources)
  • Create an issue called TWE: Create Guide for How to Implement Informed Consent and use the TWE generic template as a resource in your issue

Please provide update:

  1. Progress: "What is the current status of your project? What have you completed and what is left to do?" - we know you just came back from break, please just summarize the progress from before then
  2. Blockers: "Difficulties or errors encountered."
  3. Availability: "How much time will you have this week to work on this issue?"
  4. ETA: "When do you expect this issue to be completed?"
  5. Pictures or links* (if necessary): "Add any pictures or links that will help illustrate what you are working on."
  • remember to add links to the top of the issue if they are going to be needed again.

Hi @oij11 This folder has mentor consent form and example Angela mentioned during the meeting.

This is the consent form for parents/guardians.

Our goal is to develop a template we can edit and share with whoever participates in the study, including interns (most are minors), mentors, HfLA website team members, HfLA general volunteers, partners, and other potential groups that may be involved in the future.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Also, I found some previous issues related to consent form: #188, #242, and #245

They might be helpful.

I identified consent forms, documents, and emails, for parents/guardians and mentors and placed them under the Consent Forms folder. There is a discrepancy between parent-informed consent vs. mentor-informed consent. I suggest we use mentor-informed consent as a template that can be used for all the other participants.

@pandanista just to understand the project correctly- you said most interns are minors but on this page, ONLY Interns 18+ will be paired with a mentor so which is correct? Or is it that minors can be interns but can not be paired with a mentor? Relatedly, I assume we need a consent form for interns who are not minors so they can consent themselves, right?

@oij11 Thank you for the suggestion!

Good catch, I believe this page has correct information, but I will double check with Bonnie on this.

Agree with you. So we should use the Mentor one as a template for participants 18+; for minors, we only do the formal consent form with their parents to disclose all research info, including interview questions.

I will create the templates, and the team will evaluate once they are deployed. Moving this issue to Ice Box for now. I will unassign you and assign you to a new issue. Much appreciated!
