When we apply for grants or an org asks about our impact, what can we tell them?

Oftentimes, these orgs are looking for measurements of ‘impact’. In our case, that might mean # of visitors to our site, # of listings looked up

  • Identify the metrics they likely want (may involve talking to donors, funders, foundations, or people who work with them)
  • What metrics can we potentially measure?
    • Types of users? Their goals? Their sucess rates?
  • Build a system to measure those

Other metrics which we may not be able to provide:

  • How many people were helped by our system?
  • How many repeat visitors?

Some quick thoughts — if I were looking at impact some things I’d be looking for:

  • How many people per month visit our site and look up listing information
  • Number of listings live on the website in LA (optionally: in each metropolitan area we cover)
  • How good our listings are
    • How up-to-date our listings are (i.e. 6 months) vs our target
    • How relevant our info is to food seekers vs other directories (which typically have way less info than we do)

These are not metrics, but would also want to know:

  • Our internal goals and impact metrics — which go beyond the above — e.g. we want our volunteers to get experience working in tech, we want to be sustainable as an org, we want to make updates easy, etc.
  • What’s the marketing like for this site?
  • Trust
    • What partnerships do we have
    • Our history
    • Our success stories
