Overview

If a user:

  • starts, but doesn't finish the letter generator
  • navigates to a non-letter generator page (Landing page, About, FAQs, etc)
  • re-starts the LG

their previous answers will still be there. As a user, this is unexpected and could undermine our privacy claims. To be transparent, we want to give the user the choice as to what to do with their answers.

PMs and Leads decided that having a non-intrusive popup show on non-Letter Generator pages. This popup should have two buttons:

  • one to clear their previous answers
  • one to continue where they left off

Requirements

  • simple message explaining that the user's answers are still stored in the browser
  • content for the button that clears the user's previous answers
  • content for the button to continue where the user has left off

Action Items

  • Contact Leads/PMs for info about who will be partnering from Design
  • Consider best practices around pop-up messaging
  • Create messaging for pop-up with 2 buttons/options (see info above)
  • Create iterations and discuss within Content
    - [ ] Create wireframes/prototypes as needed this should be part of the design ticket
  • Add major decisions in the comments below this issue (document your work - just the headlines)
  • Add where you are working (link to Figma page and anywhere else) to the Resources below
  • Revise and iterate and ask for Design input when necessary
  • handoff from content to design
  • Document the final text/copy in the Source of Truth Sheets file in Google drive (very important)
  • unblock Design for Data Handling Popup #1178
    • remove dependency label
    • add ready for design lead label
    • move to new issues column

Resources/Notes

  • Main Issue: Handle User Leaving the LG #1163
  • inspiration idea for option 2 - toast
  • Saving info doesn't make sense bc privacy issues.
  • Option 1 Autoclear: no, unless some kind warning before changing pages; something intrusive so the user makes an informed choice
  • Initially presented option 2, a popup with two separate button options (clear or continue), but having both seems to make most sense. This option would be a less intrusive popup that would follow the user around non-form pages.
    • language in this popup should be gentle; along the lines of 'hey we noticed you didn't finish, do you want to clear your letter or continue where you left off', think the vibe of the Paperclip mascot from Microsoft Word many moons ago, just a helpful buddy.
