Notice how some characters are horizontally squeezed or stretched to make the font monospace. This is readable, though it's particularly ugly and doesn't feel natural to read.

However, labels for Thai provinces seem to be working fine with variably-spaced letters (http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=9/16.3188/99.5087):

Could we get a better font for Thai city labels? We seem to have one working for province labels.
