Godot version

3.5.1rc1

System information

MacOS and Windows

Issue description

Until at least 3.5rc2, selecting a Control item in the Editor Scene tree would automatically switch from the script editor to the 2D editor. This no longer happens on either MacOS or Windows - have not checked x11.

Steps to reproduce

Open the script editor; select a Control node from the Scene tree.

Minimal reproduction project

This is an intentional change made by #63344 (and cherry-picked for 3.5). This follows a very common request in the community.

You can disable this behavior in the editor settings:

I thought I had looked around enough to find that change, and the option in the Editor. Thanks for the info.

Has whether or not the default for the setting should be on or off been debated?

There was a bit of discussion in the linked pull request, but the Is this really needed? section makes it clear that the new behavior was desired by a majority of users.
