Would be awesome to merge individual host settings into a default settings file to get settings for each host to avoid maintaining duplicate data.

Do I have this desired behavior described properly?

  • If a default settings file is specified
  • All services that specify their own custom settings file will merge their file with the default

It'd be a great feature. But there are cases when overriding may be confusing or unexpected. Should this be the behavior out of the box or would it be better to allow a mode (replace vs. merge)?
