This is an intentional centering with max-width of 1200px to make bubbles saner on wide screens, see #18072

I would also like to ask for a little bit adjustability with this approach. Looks too narrow on my 4K screen, and I personally don't mind if messages are on the left and right w/o any fixed width. So a switch in the settings to turn the adaptive layout on and off would be perfectly fine.

Please add a toggle checkbox to enable/disable these margins

Thanks for the feedback on this - for our initial launch we're choosing to stick with what we have. Once this feature is out of labs and used by more folks we'll revisit this decision.

In the meantime, I'll close this issue. Thank you!
