Timelion: If you remove the default query and try to add another one, you hit an internal server error. #14624

Server OS version: Ubuntu 64 bit

Original install method (e.g. download page, yum, from source, etc.): Snapshot build of RC2

Description of the problem including expected versus actual behavior: When an user accidentally deletes the default es query of .es(*) in Timelion and tries to add another panel, the user is presented with an error as shown below:

Error Timelion: Error: Expected: "$" @ character undefined

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Remove the default expression and try to add another panel .

Errors in browser console (if relevant):

2:5601/api/timelion/run Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 500 (Internal Server Error)

Same error also occurs if you remove the query and hit play button

@Rasroh What should the expected behavior be? Timelion can not parse an empty expression. Should the error message just be better? Saying something like "Please provide an expression"?
