It would also be great if at some point this project could be converted to use the HTTP API rather than the telnet method so as to allow more than one device at a time.

The Denon Integration for Home Assistant is able to use both methods. Telnet returns more active event states but is exclusive. It would be nice if we could choose on this plugin as well so that it would not interfere and allow for multiple connections from different automation systems. Or better yet maybe we could split this project into a Home Assistant Add-on that would allow Roon to control the volume on whatever you connected to the extension in Home Assistant.

In other words the new HA add-on would advertise a named volume control to Roon and on the HA config for that entity you would attach a volume entity in HA, like the Marantz/Denon. Then you would be able to add multiple named volume entities and attach each on to each roon device you might want to control.

I know this is probably a crazy ask, but we won't ever get it if no one ever asks, right?
