Sequins Scales

Hi, trying to understand how root and scale mask works in Sequins application. I was thinking that it something like Ableton scale mask and if I select root A and manually mask semitone scale for A minor, it will filter notes in editor UI, but it doesn't work like that, still showing all notes. If I misunderstood purpose of those (apart of transposing), might be any tips on achieve something similar?
