provide Mac and Linux binaries for release builds

for quickly following along the Medium article, and considering the number of developers using Mac or Linux, it would be handy (i.e. safe some time and effort) to be able to just download binaries from the release artifacts instead of having to checkout the code and follow all steps manually.
