Problem

Improve language SEO / search dicsovery (ex. hreflang, lang)

Description

Bing, Baidu

  • I was unable to find any Baidu documentation regarding localized versions. I found only claims without references that Baidu behaves in a similar way to Bing
  • Note: W3C recommends against <meta http-equiv="content-language" content="en-us">:
    Declaring language in HTML:

    You should never use a meta element with the http-equiv attribute set to Content-Language to indicate the language of a page, but in certain circumstances you may want to serve language information with the HTTP header to indicate the intended audience of your page. Whether or not you use the HTTP header, you should always declare the language of the text in a page using a language attribute on the html tag. For more information see the companion article, HTTP headers, meta elements and language information.

  • How To Tell Bing Your Website's Country and Language | Webmaster Blog

    Alternatively, embed the document location in either the or the <title> element using the same format:

    • <html lang="en-us">
    • <title lang="en-us">
  • Example for /licenses/by/4.0/deed.an:
    <html dir="ltr" lang="an">
    • ✅ app already does this

Google, Yandex

Alternatives

  • do nothing?
