Taking cold/offline backups of Zeebe data and restoring from backups is possible but tricky to get right.
Because Self-Managed is configured and deployed in various ways we can only provide documentation that will guide users in implementing their own procedure that fits their specific setup.

Goal

Add a new page under Self Managed/Zeebe/Operations that describes:

  • That only offline backups are supported
  • How to take backups of Zeebe data
  • How to restore from backups

Non-Goals

  • Hot/online backups
  • Backing up Elasticsearch data
  • Providing a script or copy-paste tutorial
  • Documenting general best-practices for backups
  • Covering all possible Zeebe deployment and configuration options
