Filesystem Hierarchy

This page is intended to keep a record of where Brave stores file on the filesystem, cross-platform. Especially useful to know are the files Brave writes which Chromium does not.

On macOS ~/Library/Application Support/brave/

On Windows: %appdata%\brave\

On Linux: ~/.config/brave/

Inside this directory is:

*.dat - data files needed for Brave ad/tracker blocking
httpse.json - https everywhere rules
ledger* - brave payments related files
session-store-1* - brave session state and backups
sitesettings.json - not sure why that exists because it appears to be data that is duplicated in `session-store-1`
